A synopsis on planning 500 B.C. - 2030
April - October 2016
A SPACE...
Beyond a beautiful room, everybody wishes for a courtyard, a street, a neighborhood, and a city, reflecting the same spirit, attention, and passion. We wish for a territory that belongs to all of us, not only in joint tenancy. Our needs and passions overlap on the same space. How can we coordinate them?
The territory belongs to all of us, and in turn not only to US. Its future is a matter of concern and we should all be involved in discussions about it. To decide on the future we must see where we have come from and where we have arrived, we must know the shared past well and understand the present in which we live.
A PLACE...
The exhibition launched as a several-month-long presentation of the vision of Albania 2030: General National Plan, Integrated Cross-Sectorial Plan for the Coast, and the Integrated Cross-Sectorial Plan for the Economic Zone Tiranë-Durrës. But that was not enough. It was further elaborated and took the form of a place that narrates on Albania, the formation of its settlements, the treasures that it carries and of which we should become aware; which also tells of the damages that we have caused upon the territory, but also about the potentials of our land.
A journey in time and space, like a journal on which the history of the territory is written, where it is spoken about the present, and the vision of the future is projected.
The exhibition communicates through images and video, through installations and a 3-dimensional model, it communicates through figure as well as sound. In the exhibition there are objects that represent something in reality, as there are excerpts from reality brought in to communicate, introduce, and raise awareness.
Communication occurs through the various objects retrieved from the archives, which have been treated as works of art. Besides representing territories, events or visions, these objects also bear craft values, especially the maps of the Albanian city plans, worked with techniques that are no longer practiced today.
This exhibition was conceived as a space for discussion, education, information, and rising of awareness. We wish for it to be visited, but above all to be experienced and become a reference point for professionals and groups of interest. Hence, we decided to keep this exhibition opened for several months and organize different activities focusing on the cognition of the Albanian territory, its past, its present, and its future.
